It can be tough to decide on the right leather cleaner, but don't despair. There are some out there that can do the job and more without too much trouble.
You want to look for a cleanser that is specifically made for taking stains and dirt off items, accessories, or objects made of leather, vinyl, and plastic. Try one that comes in foam. Check and see what kinds of chemicals it contains and leave behind those with more toxic and environmentally unfriendly substances, including VOCs (otherwise known as volatile organic compounds). You don't need them to clean. And you don't want to share your space with them either.
Note that such a cleaner can often be used on a wide variety of missions. If you're looking for something to take with you on that road trip in your all-terrain vehicle, boat or camper, then double check that it will fit the bill as an interior cleaner.
Often, these products also provide some sort of added protection. They contain a formula that helps repel dust and dirt, keeping it from sticking around. This is always a handy addition.
Before you let loose with any leather cleaner, it's a good idea to test a bit on an inside or other less noticeable surface. It's better to be safe than sorry.
