Can a Honda hatch beat a Nissan 350z?
More specifically:
Honda EG hatch (which is 2100 pounds) with a h22a engine swap (which has 195 horse power)
Nissan 350z-(weighs 3200 pounds) (287 horsepower)
I am asking this cause the Honda is so light.
assuming you mean in a straight line on a short track with a normally aspirated stock suspension honda and equally skilled drivers. if you throw in some corners the nissan's going to lap the honda several times before its over. put some distance in and the honda is going top out at least 50mph less.
the honda will be moving just over 10lbs per horse power and the nissan just over 11lbs per horse power.
really the answer can't be figured from any of that. it's a lot more complicated than power weight ratios, ever wonder why the people that claim a CRX can take high end sports car never have any real proof besides power to weight ratio?
first off the honda 's HP rating is most likely rated at the crank not the brakes. the nissan I believe is at the brakes. if the honda is 195 at the crank it's getting about 20% less at the brakes so its about 156 bhp while the nissan is 287bhp. so now the honda is pushing a little over 13lbs per horsepower with the nissan is still 11lbs.
torque numbers would really help as would the rpm at which BHP and torque numbers are taken.
and the single biggest factor here would be how that horse power gets to the road. the transmission gearing makes a huge difference, the nissan's 6 speed close ratio is going to give it a huge edge over the economy tuned 5 speed in the honda. do you really think that honda will be pulling 0-60s in the 5 sec range?
now if you have the money build it I've seen h22a pushing more than 300hp normally aspirated, throw on a turbo and you can get it close to 400. And I do know a racing team (desert racing) that swears by their 3.5 v6 powered (taken from an MDX) buggy, it's faster than their small block buggys.
