Harley Davidson custom 883 2006 carburated would the stage one kit really give me more power.?
what is the difference if any. I am coming up on my 5k service and was pondering this move. Any input would greatly help.
first off, the current 883's cant be easily changed to 1200's anymore. they can, but the change-over wont come cheap. the stage 1 will add some power, but it wont be very much; 10% extra if that. u wont need to downshift quite as much.
since this is carburated, stage 1 is rather easy to install, and u dont need to take it to a shop, plunk down $60 or more an hour on something u can do urself. a stage 1 is nothing to do.
all it is is replacing the stock air cleaner with a high flow air cleaner. it would be best to put on screaming eagle vs kuryakan....kuryakan might look better, but their junk.
next is to change the jetting. unless u are running the bike close to or fully wide open, u can leave the main jet alone. its the low speed jet that should be changed; that is the jet that will be active, and all u really need is a #45 low speed needle.
after the air cleaner and carb, next is the exhaust.
its more cost effective to keep the stock header pipes, and replace the end cones, called the slip-on's.
there's a few manufacturer's that sell slip-ons. screaming eagle and vance and hines are a couple of the most popular choices.
the stock slip-on's are held on by a couple of crimped clamps, and they just slide right off. these clamps are single use only....they cant be reused. they crimp as they're being tightened down.
