Motorbike Fuel
Why are motorbikes so fuel inefficient if they weigh so little and have comparably small engine capacity?

I have a 600cc bike and it does about 35mpg; it does 20% less if I ride like Barry Sheen. I have a 12 year old car with a 1800cc engine and it also does 35mpg.
The car weighs a lot more than the bike and has an engine that's 3 times the size. Why doesn't the bike give better fuel efficiency than the car?
Is there a way to get more mpg out of the bike?

if u use cheap gas when ur bike is supposed to run premium, it will go thru that cheap chit very quick. it does on my sportster; and the 'wrench' claimed all it needed was 87 octane. ran like chit, chit mileage....i put premium in it, and it runs so much better and better mileage.

how long has it been since u changed the oil and transmission oil? and while ur at it, how's the air cleaner look? if u havent changed the air filter for quite some time, it will slowly but surely cause the carbs to run a bit rich because the filter airflow is gettin restricted. that will eat into ur mileage big time.
if u keep doing the jack rabbit starts, it will cause bad mileage. having high rev's for no real good reason will do it. face it dude, u will get poor mileage acting as if ur on the track on the street, and ur doing fast starts/stops, etc. stop-n-go city traffic plays hell on my mileage also in comparision to steady speed on the freeway.
