What about a Chevy Aveo?
My choices are a 4dr Aveo, Neon, Focus, Cobalt or Malibu. I'm trading in a 2005 cavalier coupe. It is too small for my family of 4. I need one of those cars the years 2005-2006 and 10,000 or cheaper. Let me know!!!
If the cavalier coupe is too small, your only real choice on here is the Malibu. Yes, it is a little underpowered (unless you get the MAXX model), but that doesn't sound like your primary concern. It is by far the safest (Go to edmunds.com and look up crash ratings) and largest of the models you listed. You may be better off considering a slightly older car with a little more mileage. You should be able to find something in the full-size class in your price range in the 2001-2004 years. Maybe an Accord or Camry (both safe, economical, good for 200K miles or so). If you prefer the Americans (I do), maybe an Impala, Stratus, Ford 500, Chrysler 300, something like that. Just my 2 cents.
