1998 mustang GT shaking violently all of a sudden?
my 1998 mustang JUST started doing something weird. the other day i was getting on the highway and i gunned it, i got up to like 55-60, and i realized that my car randomly started violently shaking.. the shifter was vibrating horribly, and the whole car felt like there was an earthquake. my steering wheel wasnt really shaking so i dont think its an alighnment... it never did it before and it only does it when i got over 45.... i know i need a new clutch cuz my clutch is toast, i can barely drive it... could a REALLY bad clutch make your car shake? and it does it at any gear no matter what as long as im going over 45 or 50, even in neutral or if the clutch is in. it seems kind of a coincidence that it just started at the same time as my clutch going downhill.
It is probably an ignition problem. Your check engine light should be on. You are probably having random cylinder misfire. You might want to replace the spark plugs and check the wires if it has high mileage. If this doesn't help then check your exhaust system to make sure there are no leaks which can cause cylinder misfires, poor exhaust gas recirculation, and many other problems. It is most likely not your clutch if it is shaking. A bad clutch can only cause slippage, in most circumstances.
