i need help deciding between the subaru wrx and the sti! ('07 models)?
ok so im going to buy a brand new wrx OR sti.
the first easy difference between the two was about a 10grand gap between the prices. now lets see why...
the sti has a 6 speed while the wrx has a 5. personally id prefer the 5 because i hate how reverse works on 6 speeds! but does this 6 speed transmission hold anymore torqe than the 5...? that i couldnt find out!
next thing i noticed is the sti has about 30 hp on the wrx and of course that makes it have more torqe at the same time. but why does it have more hp? is it just a matter of a bigger turbo? i know that the engine is the same 2.5dohc.
lastly the sti looks a little sportier... but if i can spend 3 grand upgrading my wrx to make it match or beat the sti for hp, and slap a 2000 dollar viel side body kit on it to make it sportier... then let me know so i can laugh at sti owners everywhere!
yes the 6 speed is much beefier than the 5. If you had an sti motor on a 5 speed wrx tranny it would break it fast. As far as 06 and older models, i believe the wrx has about 240 hp and 240 torque. The sti has 300 for each- thats a 60 hp and torque increase. A few mods like and intake, exhaust, chip etc... would get you close to 30 hp. The engines are nearly idenical. The sti has a bigger turbo which makes the increase in hp. The Sti also has upgraded suspension, brakes and wheels. The sti also has a center controled differential which allows you to change the car from full time all whell drive(50% power front wheels, 50% rear) to 35% front 65% rear which alows you to kinda slide the rear end out. ( only if you try really hard
Cosmeticly the only difference is the STi has a much bigger wing and a few Sti badges. You could get a wing like that for a lot less than 2000K
The sti will run about 13.2 in the quarter mile and the wrx about 14.2
Test drive them both-you will know which one is right for you. basicly 10K more for a mush faster car that is really really fast but probably unecessary. Good Luck
