Buying Honda CIvic EX: How much should I offer?
All - I'm in the market for a used car, and think I've settled in on a 2006 Honda Civic EX. The sticker price on the one I'm looking at is $17,995 at the dealership. I looked up the KBB and that seems about right, but I'm pretty sure (based on what I've read about buying cars) I should try to negotiate lower, right? How much do you think I should offer for the car? And how much should I be willing to pay?
In general, Hondas retain their value very well. That fact alone somewhat lessens your negotiating power. If you can get out the door at $17k (with taxes/title/registration included), I'd say you would have done pretty well. Obviously, you should aim for less, with this being your ceiling. Of course, there's other factors that could affect this, such as mileage, condition of the car, options, region you live in, etc., that would weaken or strengthen your stance, but since I don't know those, I'll just say $17k.
And to the person above: I bought a 2002 EX with every available option other than the upgraded wheel package with 12 miles on it, and I paid $16k out the door.
