Is it possible to paint my grille?
I was thinking about painting my chrome grille into body colored just like the SS or Z71 version of the suburban, Tahoe and Silverado. But I will only do this with the dark colored trucks in the colors of Blue, Red, Black, and green. Do I have to strip the chrome plating of the grille first to do this or I just directly spray paint it?
I painted mine, and it has looked great over about two years now. Go to the parts store and get paint that is made for bumpers and trim. It is a special paint, and will stay on real well. I wouldn't try this with just any kind of paint. Above all DO NOT use Lacquer paint as it will melt the plastic!
By the way, mine is an old "74" C-10 and I also did the bow tie emblem by hand in the middle of the grill, and it looks awsome.
I did sand the bad places with 400 grit paper, and used a plastic primer. I waited 20 minutes between coats, and sprayed light coats until it had the desired look I was after. I did the bow tie with an artist brush, and took my time. My truck is a head turning show truck, that will fly!!!!!! I love it, and wouldn't take nothing for it.
