My 92 Toyota Corolla won't start or take a jump?

In the past, it's chosen not to start, but since I replaced the battery 6 months ago I haven't had any problems. I drove it to work one morning and couldn't get it to start that night. I tried to jump it with a friend's car, but it still wouldn't start (all of the connections were good, sparks when the second negative touched metal). The car is trying to turn over but not connecting.
The engine is turning over when I turn the key, so it shouldn't be the starter. Also it shouldn't be the fuel pump because you can hear that engage when I turn the key.

Based on what you're saying, as best as I can understand it, I would still suspect the starter may be going bad. The fact that you had problems starting it before the new battery, and that you thought a jump start would help. Starters can go bad and still engage and turn the engine if they have enough juice to operate on, like when you jump start it, but not enough with just your battery. This can be because the starter is taking more juice than it should be. A "starter draw" test can confirm if this is the case. Any place that has equipment to measure the Amperage while cranking the starter can do this, including some parts stores. Call and ask before you go though. Or, if you take the starter out of the car, most any place can test it.

The main question would be if the engine is cranking over as fast as it normally should. If so, then you should check for fuel and spark. If it's cranking over really easy, but it doesn't sound like it's firing ("trying to start") at all, it could be the timing belt slipped or broke. There should be a cover at the top of the front of the motor you can take off to get a pretty good look at that. But if it was cranking really slow or not at all with just your battery, and still fairly slow with a jump, I would definitely have the starter tested. Or if you mean the starter is making noise, but the engine isn't spinning (belts aren't turning), that's the starter drive gear that is out.
