What's the best way to disinfect toys?

We had guests yesterday and, not to be mean, their children seemed a bit dirty. I'm just curious how to disinfect the toys with which they played. I know I can wash certain things, but do I use Lysol disinfecting wipes for plastic toys? I heard that it's not necessarily good to put them in the dishwasher. How about for cloth toys that can't go in the washing machine. Any ideas?

The best thing to do is use a bleach/water solution to soak the plastic toys....1/2 cup of bleach to 1 gallon of water. After you soak them though...you have to rinse them very well to remove all traces of the bleach. (you have to do this if you use Lysol or disinfectant wipes as well)

For cloth toys use a warm water solution mixed with some anti-bacterial soap. Use a washcloth to wipe the surface clean and let dry. If you're really concerned about germs though the best thing to do is place all the stuffed animals etc in a garbage bag, tied off and place them in your freezer for 24 hours. That will kill any lingering germs and dust mites that might be already inside the toy. (you should be doing this about once a month or so anyways).

Make sure you read the warnings on any cleaners you use because most will tell you whether or not you should use on plastic etc. Even that Hard-surface spray (I can't remember who makes it) says to rinse surfaces of toys etc...anything that baby (or bigger kids) might place in their mouths.

Good luck.
