i have a v40 turbo diesel. i need to replace the turbo what is involved?
i have a v40 turbo diesel. i need to replace the turbo what is involved? its a plate so cant afford anything silly. can you give me a rough guide to amount of hours involved?
Usually the cold side turbocharger bearing needs to be replaced. A $20.00 bearing plus 4 - 6 hours of shop time removing the turbocharger from the car, opening it up, installing the new bearing, reassembling and installing back on your car. A complete new turbocharger will cost over (my heart just stopped) plus time for tearing off the old one and installing a new one.
Call the dealership for parts costs. Off-shore car parts are money swallower's. Another fact: If you had been using synthetic oil in the crankcase you wouldn't be shelling out money at this point. Regular oil "cokes" the turbo bearing when you turn the motor off afer a long sustained drive.
